The past The youth wise Trust was formed in 2002 after the Youth Council HCC proposed that the City should have its own youth space in the CBD. The formation of the Trust was done with assistance from the Young people of Youth Infusion and HCC officer support, a space was secured for the project and a project manager was employed. The young people of the City were asked to name their space and after hundreds of cool ideas the name “Phonic” was settled on. That was the past, the learning years Phonic was an event centre for young people and a place that they could drop in and socialize. We did not have a café in those days nor did we have any computers for the young people we had a pool table and a table tennis table we had some sofas.
The facility was relatively basic as there were not enough funds to buy the things that would really make the space cool but we did have an awesome PA system and some average musical gear and we really made the most of that over the early years of Phonic.
We ran literally thousands of events bands, parties, dance raves, shows, live performances, teaching classes in fact every kind of youth related event we could think of! We even started to dabble with Radio and recording studio ideas.
In 2005 high rents became to much of a burden and we started to look at alternate venues for the youth space we had learnt a lot and a picture of the future was well formed in our minds. By now it was obvious that we needed to have more options for the young people of the City and those young people had helped us to see through their eyes at what it was that they wanted from their youth space.
And so we moved to High Street closer to the heart of the City were the young people wanted to be and armed with new knowledge and a new plan we took over an old night club which became “Secret Level” and started on the road to becoming a fully future proof connected and interactive Youth Space. Its here we started Move Fm radio and started work on the recording studio that became an industry standard spec studio Digital Tube. |
